Sleeping Mask Saves the Night!

Tucking Derek into bed ...

My famous last words: "Don't put the covers over your head, you need to breathe"

His famous last words.. "OK and Can you turn on the hall light?"

7 minutes later I go and turn Off the hall light and do my last check on the boys.

Never Fails Derek is Gone! Vanished! He has the covers up over his head, tucked under his head so tight..I have no idea how this kid is getting ANY oxygen what so ever. So I yank them out and down from his Dripping Nasty Sweaty Head..thinking Jimminy Christmas Child!

Derek tells me he doesn't know why he covers his head. I am sure it is so the "Monsters" don't see him sleeping.

Derek just went over to Grandmas House last night for a sleepover... and I got the cutest Multimedia Message on my phone:

Text message from grandma: You know how your baby likes to put his head under the blankets... well he said grandma where are those things you put on your eyes..I want to wear them so I won't put my head under the covers...I want some of these for my birthday...so cute :)

BRILLIANT! {Insert the DUH moment here}

Oh my gosh...what a great fix and now my child won't smother himself!

So my next adventure is finding Derek a Cute Eye Mask!

That was easy!
The Organized Parent sells really cute one's only $5.95 each!

Pretty Adorable right?

I can't tell you how happy this little fix made me! Now I can sleep at night knowing Derek is breathing and safe from those scary  "monsters."

Are you kiddos afraid of anything at bedtime? What little tricks do you do to help them feel safe?

  1. Awww! You know I'm similar... I like to have something over my eyes too! (usually my arm but sometimes a blanket or sheet! Sometimes I even wrap it so it covers my eyes but not my mouth. A mask works too :-) I think I'd like one of those gel ones.

  2. OMG! Huge duh moment! My boys always did the same thing! I, of course, got no sleep for 18 years. They are now grown and on their own. I am left wondering if I should buy them those cute sleeping masks? Would a 30 year old man still be afraid of monsters? Off to email them both to ask.

  3. So cute! I'm so glad that worked! I hate having to worry about the munchkins while they're sleeping! Camille has been really sick so I slept in her bed last night just in case!

  8. awwww! sweet baby boy. I bet he needs the hall light to feel safe (like my daughter does) but the light keeps him from being able to sleep so he covers his head. Love the eye mask as a solution. And I've gotten some of my best nights sleep with an eye mask.

  10. You are the great mom. You know very well how to handle your kid without being harsh with him. The solution you made for your little champ is brilliant.
